AUSTIN --  Freshman Pippi Lotta Enok of Oklahoma used a personal-best in the javelin to catapult passed Jenelle Rogers of Ball State and into the lead and then held on in the 800m to win the heptathlon title at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Enok, the World U-20 silver medalist, ran 2:17.36 in the 800m to pick up 860 points and close out her seven event performance with a new personal-best score of 6165 points.

"I think it will take a few days to understand, because right now I can like believe it," Enok said. "A year ago, this wasn't possible, but as a freshman, I think it's a huge thing for our program."

Enok, who entered the meet as the 12 seed and sat in fifth place after Day 1, took the lead in late in the competition when she threw 46.65m/153-0 on her second throw to pick up a big 795 points to push her six-event total to to 5305 points.

The Estonian opened Day 2 of competition with a 6.30m/20-8 long jump. Her mark in the javelin was her second competition-best mark. She also had the best high jump clearance on the first day at 1.75m/5-8.75.

"Now we have only like eight women who have gotten over 6000 in the heptathlon," Enok said of Estonian heptathletes. "So, it's a huge thing after a while for somebody to get over 6k. You know, we have to just keep up with the heptathletes."

Rogers, a junior, had carried a 165-point lead into Day 2 looking to extend her advantage and build some breathing room in the standings. She accomplished just that in the long jump, getting out to 6.32m/20-9 on her second attempt to earn 949 points and push her five-event score to 4789. But she had a disastrous showing in the javelin, throwing just 27.30m/89-7 to lose her entire lead and slip into third place overall, 90 points behind Enok. She wound up finishing fifth.

Beatrice Juskeviciute of Vanderbilt maintained her second-place standing with 6117 points. She jumped 6.11m/20-0.5 for 811 points to start the day, threw 42.74m/140-3 for 720 points, and ran 2:18.89 in the 800m for 839 points.
