AUSTIN -- Ackera Nugent of Arkansas exploded through the early portion of the race and held on to win the 100m hurdles title at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Nugent finished in 12.25 seconds, holding off Kentucky senior Masai Russell, who finished second in 12.32 seconds, and LSU junior Alia Armstrong, who took third in 12.49 seconds.
"It feels amazing to know that I've just got to trust my coach, and I follow instruction very, very well," Nugent said. "To be able to follow those instructions and see the time, I feel very pleased."
Nugent's time was a season best and the fastest all-conditions time in NCAA history. Russell's time was also a season best.

Nugent's speedy bounce back after running on the Razorback's 4x100m team was nothing short of remarkable.
"Through that race, after running the 4x100, I had to regain my focus," Nugent said. "With the hurdles, there are 10 obstacles. I had been working for this, it's our time to shine. I'm patient, and I just need to stay in my lane, stay focused. Don't listen to the crowd around me and just keep going."
Arizona senior Talie Bonds was fourth in 12.71 seconds, and Florida junior Grace Stark was fifth in 12.72 seconds.
Coastal Carolina sophomore Alexis Glasco was sixth in 12.74 seconds, Michigan junior Aasia Laurencin was seventh in 12.82 seconds, North Carolina A&T senior Paula Salmon was eighth in 12.92 seconds, and UCF junior Rayniah Jones was ninth in 13.00 seconds.
