The United States Anti-Doping Agency revealed on Friday a 4-month sanction imposed in April on U.S. athlete Allie Ostrander, who was found to have used a prohibited substance, canrenone, for which she held a prescription for acne medication. 

The U.S. steepler and Alaskan native, who is a three-time NCAA champion steeplechase winner at Boise State, is just days away from the sanction clearing. 

Ostrander, 26, accepted the 4-month suspension from USADA in April after she did not file a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) form for the medication. She was given an out-of-competition test on March 30 and her suspension began on April 28.

Her acne medication was found to have spironolactone, which is prohibited under USADA and is classified as a Diuertic and Masking agent. 

In 2021, Ostrander finished eighth at the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 3K steeplechase. She left her sponsor, the Brooks Beast, in December of 2021, to prioritize her health after injury and an eating disorder. 

She signed with a new sponsor in February of 2023, signing with NNormal, a company led by trail runner Killian Jornet.
