Kimberley May may not have expected it, but the Providence College junior left the track on Saturday night with a bit history on her side.

The New Zealander hung on to Anna Camp Bennett with 400 meters left in the first heat of the women's mile at the John Thomas Terrier Classic inside Boston University's fast track and then closed for a 10-second personal best, securing a time of 4:27.85, which was the seventh-best effort in NCAA history.

Competing for adidas, Camp Bennett won in 4:27.13, registering a World top 10 performance alongside May, whose effort was also a new NCAA lead.

The Providence junior's time was just the eighth effort under 4:28 all-time in the NCAA, joining the likes of Dani Jones, Karissa Schweizer, Sally Kipyego, Leah Falland, Elle St. Pierre, Jenny Simpson and Katelyn Tuohy.

May's moment, which surged past her previous best of 4:37.61 from last February, also continued to establish herself among the best in the NCAA, following top 15 performances in the mile (2:04.47) and the 3,000m (8:54.16).

A total of six other women broke 4:31 on Saturday, including five collegians: Northern Arizona's Maggi Congdon (4:30.24), BYU's Riley Chamberlain (4:30.26), Providence's Shannon Flockhart (4:30.83), Boston College's Molly Hudson (4:30.92) and Stanford's Juliette Whittaker (4:30.92).
