For Jackson, the victory concluded an unbeaten season that included the gold medal at the World Championships as well as the second-fastest time in history at 21.41. She also won the Diamond League trophy in the 100m on Saturday.
“Funny enough last year one of my goals I wrote that how I wanted to get two trophies," Jackson said. "I didn't get two trophies last year and I rewrote that again, that I wanted two trophies this year. I got it and I’m grateful. The end of the season. I’m healthy and I ran some fast times. So I’m definitely grateful.”
Griffith-Joyner's world record of 21.34 from the Seoul Olympics in 1988 will survive into the 2024 Olympic year.
Marie-Josee Ta Lou of Ivory Coast finished second in a season-best 22.10. Anthonique Strachan of the Bahamas placed third in 22.16.
Americans Tee Tee Terry (22.21), Kayla White (22.49) and Jenna Prandini (22.68) finished fourth, sixth and seventh respectively.
