EUGENE -- Sanghyeok Woo of South Korea set a new national record on his final jump of the competition to win the men's high jump at the Diamond League Prefontaine Classic at Hayward Field.
Harrison and Hamish Kerr of New Zealand each entered the competition with 24 Diamond League points and Woo carried in 20 points, trailing Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar by five points. Barshim did not make the trip to the U.S. to compete, which left the door to the season title wide open.
A 🇰🇷 record for Sanghyeok Woo!

Woo, the World Championships silver medalist, kept a clean card through the first five heights, clearing 2.33m/7-7.75 on his first attempt. Norbert Kobielski of Poland also cleared the bar on his first try.
Kerr missed all three tries at the height and bowed out of the competition. Harrison missed his first two attempts, but cleared on his third to remain in the competition.
When the bar then moved to 2.35m/7-8.5, it appeared that all three remaining jumpers would struggle and the order of finish was likely to be decided by count back. Kobielski and Harrison each were unsuccessful on their three cracks at the height. Woo missed his first two, but then got over on his third to claim the competition.
“My legs felt dead the whole day," Harrison said. "I don’t make excuses, a lot went on this morning that I’m not gonna talk about, but I don’t make excuses. There were two better men on the day, and that’s just how the cookie crumbled today.”
Kobielski wound up finishing second over Harrison by virtue of his first-bar clearance at 2.33m, which was also a new personal best.
