Graham Blanks of Harvard continued his recent tear, following up his victory at the NCAA Cross-Country Championships last month by breaking the NCAA record in the men's 5000m, running 13:03.72 at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston.

Blanks' time broke the previous record of 13:08.28 set in 2012 by Lawi Lalang of Arizona, and earned him an all-important Olympic qualifying standard heading into 2024 by getting under 13:05.

The junior entered the race as no stranger to the indoor track at Boston University. He finished 11th in the event a year ago in 13:18.45, his previous lifetime best.
