The Payton Jordan Invitational on April 26 will give top athletes another opportunity for a late-season tune-up, as programs begin looking toward to the NCAA Championships. 

The event has been a fixture on the collegiate track and field schedule since 1996, hosted by Stanford University's track and field program at Cobb Track and Angell Field in Stanford, California.

The meet, which has a reputation as a showcase for distance running, returned for its 25th edition in 2022 after a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19.

The namesake of the Payton Jordan Invitational is legendary track and field coach Payton Jordan, who was the head coach at Stanford for more than two decades (1957-1979) but also gained global notoriety as the coach of the 1968 United States track and field team. That team won a record 24 medals (12 gold) at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City.

Competition at the 2024 Payton Jordan Invitational tentatively is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.  PST/4:00 p.m. EST, with the final event, the men’s 10,000 meters, starting at 10:00 p.m. PST/1:00 a.m. EST

The 2024 Payton Jordan Invitational will take place April 26 and bring standout track and field athletes to Cobb Track and Angell Field in Stanford, California. 

The Stanford University track and field program will be hosting the event.
