UNC's Ethan Strand Runs World No. 3 All-Time Mile At BU Terrier Classic
North Carolina's Ethan Strand not only broke the collegiate mile record, but moved to World No. 3 all-time indoors with his BU Terrier Classic run.
It's another collegiate record for North Carolina's Ethan Strand.
On Saturday at the 2025 BU Terrier Classic, Strand ran his way to a 3:48.32 mile win, which broke the all-time collegiate mark in the mile and moved up to World No. 3 all-time at the indoor distance.

Strand is picking up right where he left off after his season opener at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in December where he set the collegiate 3,000m record of 7:30.15. Today, he dropped down in distance to log another collegiate record in impressive fashion.
With a lap to go, Strand moved from third into the lead and opened up a sizeable gap, and he came down the homestretch with a sub-3:50 time in the bag. Strand crossed the finish line in champion fashion, raising his arms in celebration as he clocked a time of 3:48.25.
A 27.10 split over the final 200 meters helped him become the first collegiate to ever dip under 3:50 in the mile and become the third-fastest performer indoors in world history, only behind Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha and American record holder Yared Nuguse.
On’s Robert Farken finished second with a time of 3:49.45, while Adam Fogg of UA Baltimore Distance took third in 3:49.85.
