Grant Fisher Will Make An American Record Attempt At BU Valentine 2025
Grant Fisher Will Make An American Record Attempt At BU Valentine 2025
The Two-Time Olympic Bronze Medalist will chase Woody Kincaid's 5,000m mark.

Grant Fisher is sending out invites. On Feb. 14 at the 2025 BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational. He will be running the 5,000m -- and hopes that a top notch field will toe the line with him.
His goal is simple. He wants to run a personal best. To run an indoor personal best, Fisher would need to improve on the 12:51.84 that he ran at last year's BU DMR Challenge. Woody Kincaid holds the indoor American record of 12:51.61.
So, it'll come down to a tenth of a second.
It should be noted that Fisher holds a lifetime personal best of 12:46.96, which is the outdoor American record. He set that mark at the 2022 Brussels Diamond League meeting.
Since then, Fisher has run a whopping 10 5,000m races.
That timeline has looked like this:
- Sep. 2, 2022 - 12:46.96 | Brussels Diamond League *American Record
- Sep. 7, 2022 - 13:01 | Road 5k Zurich Diamond League
- June 2, 2023 - 12:56.99 | Golden Gala Pietro Mennea Diamond League
- Sep. 6, 2023 - 12:54.49 | Zurich Diamond League
- Feb. 16, 2024 - 12:51.84 | BU DMR Challenge
- May 17, 2024 - 12:53.30 | LA Grand Prix
- June 27, 2024 - 13:24.78 | U.S. Olympic Team Trials Round 1
- June 30, 2024 - 13:08.85 | U.S. Olympic Team Trials Finals
- Aug. 7, 2024 - 13:52.44 | Paris Olympic Games Round 1
- Aug. 10, 2024 - 13:15.13 | Paris Olympic Finals *Olympic Bronze Medal
It has been quite some time since Fisher has whiffed sub 12:50, though he has been wildly consistent. He has run under 13 minutes at every race excluding championships and road races.
At last year's BU DMR Challenge, Fisher took a solo attempt at the record. Through the first 1,600m, Fisher split 4:09, which was three seconds ahead of Kincaid's pace. For more on that race, read the original recap article.
Fisher will have the added challenge of running three times within 12 days. On Feb. 2, Fisher ran the 1,500m at the New Balance Grand Prix and posted a 3:33.99 for second. This Saturday, he will race at the Millrose Games in the 3,000m. His two-week tour will end on Feb. 14 with the 5,000m run at the 2025 BU Valentine Invite.
