After a seven month hiatus, the Diamond League is back in full force following the inaugural meet of the season in Xiamen, China.

Olympic champions and medalists made their way China's Fujian province where they got things rolling at the Xiamen Egret Stadium.

The season opener had a little bit of everything, from upsets to world records, as World Championship contenders shined.

Cordell Tinch Takes Down Olympians, Notches 110mH World Lead

Last June, Cordell Tinch finished fourth in the U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials, unfortunately making him the first man left off of Team USA for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In his sixth race of the season, the 24-year-old American took down some of the best in the world, running 13.06 to take the top spot in the world leaderboard. Tinch edged out Japan's Rachid Muratake and China's Junxi Liu, who finished second and third in 13.14 and 13.24.

The defending Olympic and world champion, Grant Holloway, finished last in the field after an awkward landing, his first time losing consecutive races in over year.

For Tinch, this is his fastest wind-legal mark since the Olympic Trials a year ago, but has also ran 12.97 (+3.4) less than two weeks ago in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Faith Kipyegon Comes Up Just Shy Of 1000m World Record

Almost exactly two months out from her recently announced sub-four attempt, the greatest woman to ever run the 1500m made her 2025 debut in the 1000m, coming oh-so-close to adding a third current world record to her name.

In her first race since Athlos NYC in September, Faith Kipyegon toed the line against a star-studded field, but still pulled away for a nearly four-second win, running 2:29.21. Australia's Abbey Caldwell was runner-up in 2:32.94, a national record.

Although she came up just short of Svetlana Masterkova's 37-year-old world record of 2:28.98, Kipyegon already looks to be trending towards tip-top shape by the time late June comes around.

Kipyegon is now the third woman to ever run under 2:30, and the first to do so since the turn of the century.

Karsten Warholm Smashes 300mH World Record In 2025 Debut

The world record holder over 400mH added another one to his collection, making his long-awaited season debut in Xiamen.

The 2024 Olympic silver medalist opted for the 300mH over the weekend, going up against plenty of familiar names, but still had nearly a second of clearance between him and the runner-up, Brazil's Matheus Lima (33.98).

Warholm took down his own mark of 33.26 that he set back in 2021.

Although the event is rarely contested, World Athletics announced last month that it would become an official event, and will be contested for the final time this Diamond League season in Oslo (June 12).
