This year’s Diamond League action kicked off April 26 with a pair of events in China (April 26 and May 3), before moving on to Qatar (May 16) and Morocco (May 25).
The season has not been short on memorable moments, and that should be no different in Rome, where 11 Olympic champions and more than 60 overall medalists from the Olympics and World Athletics Championships will converge on the Olympic Stadium (Stadio Olimpico) in Rome.
Among the entries will be Italy’s Olympic high jump champion (Tokyo 2020) Gianmarco Tamberi, who is making his 2025 Diamond League debut and returning to action for the first time since winning the season-ending Diamond League high jump crown last September.
Tamberi absolutely will be tested in his return, as the field also includes reigning Olympic champion Hamish Kerr (New Zealand) and last year’s Golden Gala high jump winner Woo Sang-hyeok (South Korea).
Other Olympic stars headed to Rome are long-distance runner Beatrice Chebet (Kenya), long jumper Miltiadis Tentoglou (Greece), discus thrower Valarie Allman (United States), track star Quincy Hall (United States), triple jumper Thea LaFond (Dominica) and many more.
The Golden Gala Pietro Mennea, which is being held for the 45th time, has been part of the Diamond League landscape since 2010. It was renamed in 2013 in honor of Italian sprinter Pietro Mennea, who died just prior to that year’s edition.
The Stadio Olimpico – referred to as the Olimpico or the Olympic Stadium – also is rich with history and prestige.
It was built in 1937, almost exclusively for track and field, but it received a makeover for the 1960 Olympics and has hosted many top-tier events since, including being a regular stop for the Diamond League.
The renovations made it more versatile and able to welcome more than 70,000 fans for athletics, soccer, rugby and more.
The Diamond League Rome 2025 will include seven men’s disciplines and seven women’s disciplines, as athletes continue collecting points toward the year’s final event in Switzerland.
The disciplines featured in Rome in 2025 will be:

About The Diamond League
The invitation-only Diamond League brings together the most elite track & field athletes to showcase their skills, earn prize money, collect points toward the season-ending championship event and ultimately elevate the status of athletics across the globe.
Traditionally, Diamond League competition includes a slate of 16 disciplines, though not every meet features all of them.
Points accumulated during the first 14 events of the season determine the athletes who advance to the final event, where they compete for more prize money and Diamond League titles.
The 2025 season marks FloTrack’s first year as the streaming home of the Diamond League for audiences in the United States and its territories (with the exception of any events being held in the United States).
