The Wanda Diamond League returns to Rome in 2025, and while the meet may not have the same late-season drama as it did a year ago, it still will feature some of the sport’s top stars looking to leave their marks on this season’s league standings.

The Golden Gala Pietro Mennea – Presented by IP/Diamond League Rome 2025, renamed in 2013 in honor of Italian sprinter Pietro Mennea who died just before the meet was held that year, again will take place at the Stadio Olimpico (Olympic Stadium) in Rome.

This year’s Golden Gala Pietro Mennea will be held June 6.

The event is the fifth meet on the 15-event 2025 Diamond League calendar, which will end with the season’s top performers heading to Zurich for two days of top-tier competition (Aug. 27-28).

This year’s Diamond League action kicked off April 26 with a pair of events in China (April 26 and May 3), before moving on to Qatar (May 16) and Morocco (May 25).

The Rome event is expected to include 11 Olympic champions and more than 60 overall medalists from the Olympics and World Athletics Championships will converge on the Olympic Stadium (Stadio Olimpico) in Rome.

The 2025 Golden Gala Pietro Mennea is the 45th edition of the storied meet.

When Is The Diamond League Rome (Golden Gala Pietro Mennea) 2025?

Again, the Diamond League Rome/Golden Gala Pietro Mennea moves toward the front of the Diamond League schedule in 2025, returning to its familiar home at Rome’s Olympic Stadium on June 6.

The venue was built in 1937, almost exclusively for track and field, but it received a makeover for the 1960 Olympics and has hosted many top-tier events since, including being a regular stop for the Diamond League.

The renovations made it more versatile and able to welcome more than 70,000 fans for athletics, soccer, rugby and more.

About The Diamond League

The invitation-only Diamond League brings together the most elite track & field athletes to showcase their skills, earn prize money, collect points toward the season-ending championship event and ultimately elevate the status of athletics across the globe.

Traditionally, Diamond League competition includes a slate of 16 disciplines, though not every meet features all of them.

Points accumulated during the first 14 events of the season determine the athletes who advance to the final event, where they compete for more prize money and Diamond League titles.

In 2025, the Wanda Diamond League will distribute a record $9.24 million in prize money, with $500,000 allocated to each of the regular-season meets, including an increased payout for select Diamond+ Disciplines at each event.
