400mH Olympic Rematch—But in the 300mH
The IAAF's recent approval of the 300m hurdles as an official event has added fresh excitement to the Diamond League. Karsten Warholm, the world record holder in the 400m hurdles, wasted no time making history—lowering his own world record in the event's Diamond League debut in Xiamen.
In Oslo, Warholm will be joined by two of his fiercest rivals: Rai Benjamin, the reigning Olympic gold medalist in the 400mH, who recently took a major win in Paris, defeating Warholm and is opening his season, and Alison dos Santos, the Paris Olympic bronze medalist. Dos Santos has been in exceptional form this year, showing impressive versatility across both the 400m hurdles and open 400m while competing as a signed athlete for Grand Slam Track.
Julien Alfred Opens Her 100m Season
The reigning Olympic 100m champion, Julien Alfred, is finally making her season debut in her signature event. She has been preparing with a focus on longer distances, including appearances in the 4x400m at the Texas Relays and several open 300m races.
The approach seems to be paying off—she clocked a 21.88 in the 200m at the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Florida, just shy of her personal best of 21.86. Joining her in the 100m are her training partner Dina Asher-Smith, the 2019 world champion in the 200m, and Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith, the 2017 200m world silver medalist.
Dalilah Muhammad vs. Anna Hall
It’s the final lap for Dalilah Muhammad. Since announcing her retirement in April, the former Olympic and world champion has shown she's still in top form, running 53.81 in the 400m hurdles.
In Oslo, she’ll face Anna Hall, the dynamic heptathlete fresh off a stunning performance at the 2025 Hypomeeting Götzis in Austria. Hall scored 7032 points—the second-highest heptathlon total in history, behind only Jackie Joyner-Kersee. Hall has often said that the 400m hurdles is her favorite event.
Graham Blanks Makes His Diamond League Debut
American distance star Graham Blanks will make his Diamond League debut in the 5000m. He’ll be lining up against some of the world’s best, including Ethiopian standout Kuma Girma and fellow Americans Cooper Teare and Nico Young. This will be a key test of Blanks’ transition to the elite international stage.
Olympic Champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi Returns in the 800m
The reigning Olympic champion and third-fastest man ever over 800m, Emmanuel Wanyonyi, is set to compete in Oslo. With most of the field already having dipped under 1:44 this season, fans can expect a tightly contested and high-quality race.
Oslo-to-Stockholm: Quick Turnaround
Just three days separate the Oslo and Stockholm legs of the Diamond League, setting up intriguing storylines. With many of the same athletes competing in both meets, some may carry momentum from Oslo, while others will be looking for redemption or tactical adjustments. Either way, the short turnaround adds a unique layer of pressure and opportunity.
Several key rematches are on deck:
- The men’s 300m hurdles field in Oslo will regroup in Stockholm, this time racing their main event—the 400m hurdles.
- The women’s 100m sees several top contenders, including Julien Alfred, Dina Asher-Smith, Daryll Neita, and Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith, returning to the line.
- In the men’s 800m, Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi will once again face a deep field, many of whom are also doubling back from Oslo.
