Will Faith Kipyegon Break 4? How To Watch
Faith Kipyegon will attempt to break four-minutes over the full mile distance. Can she become the first woman to accomplish the feat?

Faith Kipyegon will attempt to take on one of the most improbable feats in sporting history. On Thursday, June 26, Kipyegon will attempt to become the first woman to break the four-minute mile barrier.
Nike has partnered with Kipyegon to attempt the achievement in what they're calling Breaking4. It will essentially be a controlled time trial with modified factors to aid in Kipyegon's attempt.

- 2025 Wanda Diamond League Standings, Who Is Leading?
Kipyegon is arguably one of the best woman middle-distance athletes of all time. She has three Olympic 1500m medals and also owns the mile world record of 4:07.64. But to shave over seven seconds off of her personal best she'll need all of the help she can get.
Can She Do It?
The short answer is yes. But the real question is 'Will she do it'?
Shaving 7.6 seconds off of her personal best time would equate to a 3.1% improvement in time.
To put that in other perspectives, an event equivalent would be taking the 400m men's world record from 43.03 to 41.70 or the men's marathon world record from 2:00:35 to 1:56:51.
That marathon equivalent reveals the true challenge facing Kipyegon on Thursday.
But that 3.1 percentage is assuming her mile time, whereas it is probably more appropriate to take her 1500m personal best into account. Her World Record of 3:49.04 came just last year and it roughly equates to a 4:07.36.
Sure those are marginal gains, but with an attempt like this, every thousandth of a second will count.
Custom Gear To Help With Performance
Nike has revealed several details surrounding Kipyegon's custom gear for Breaking4.
She will wear a custom Fly Suit, a FlyWeb Bra, and custom Victory elite spikes. So what does that all mean?
The Fly Suit is essentially a speed suit aimed at reducing drag and improving aerodynamic efficiency. It will be coupled with a headband and arm sleeves to minimize any aerodynamic inefficiencies that the human hair and skin may produce.
The FlyWeb Bra is made of a 3D printed TPU mesh. TPU foam is commonly used in super shoes because of its lightweight nature. Nike is instead using the filament to create a mesh material that is considered breathable and is expected to allow for "unrestricted" movement.
And then there are the Victory Elite spikes. Nike took their Victory 2 spikes and made custom alterations and adjustments to allow for the attempt. They specifically fit Kipyegon's foot, but Nike took additional opportunities to tune the outsole and carbon plate. We don't have exact specifics, but we'd imagine that these are probably super super shoes.
Weather, Pacers And More
Weather can obviously be a dealbreaker. The attempt will take place at the Stade Sébastien Charléty in Paris. The attempt is scheduled to take place sometime after 7:15 PM in Paris.
A quick look at the weather shows that they're calling for high 70's during the attempt window. Wind is expected to be as high as 10 mph and humidity is slated to be about 50%. These factors could put the attempt in danger.
As for the pacers - Nike will utilize an undisclosed pacer formation made up of professional men and women. Ultimately they're looking to create a "low air pressure pocket" for Kipyegon. In other words, they're trying to maximize the benefits of a draft.
How To Watch Breaking4?
Breaking4 will stream on the Nike YouTube channel (above) and also on Prime Video. The stream is slated to start at 1:15 PM ET.
They will also be welcoming fans at the Stade Charlety in Paris in-person.
