Beatrice Chebet smashed the world record at the 2025 Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon. Here's how she did it.

Beatrice Chebet Smashes World Record In 5000M At 2025 Prefontaine Classic

Not only did Beatrice Chebet set a new world record with her time of 13:58.06 in the women's 5000M at the 50th Prefontaine Classic in 2025, she made history as the first woman to run under 14 minutes in the event. She smashed the former world record of 14:00.21 and led the entire race.

It's her second record at Hayward Field, as last year she became the first woman to run under 29 minutes in the 10,000M, setting the world record with a time of 28:54.14. Now she holds world records in both the 5,000 and 10,000M races.

She held off competitors and pulled away at the end, sealing her win.
