BMW Berlin-Marathon 2025 Results: Kenyan Runners Claim Men's, Women's Title

The BMW Berlin-Marathon 2025 concluded on Sept. 21. With a plethora of participants on the marathon course, here's how the best runners finished!

The 51st running of the BMW Berlin-Marathon 2025 took place on Sept. 21. With more than 80,000 participants through the different races and divisions, the best-of-the-best tried their hand in the Elite Men’s and Women’s divisions. 

Now the FloTrack live coverage of this event has concluded, it’s time to take a look at who fared the best on the course in Berlin. 

In the Elite Men’s division, pre-race favorite Sabastian Sawe lived up to expectations claiming the top-spot. The Kenyan ran an impressive 02:02:16 in the abnormally warm conditions of the course. 

Japanese runner Akira Akasaki came in second in the men’s division with a time of 02:06:15. Ethiopian Chimdessa Debele claimed the third podium spot in Berlin with a time of 02:06:57. Fellow Ethiopian, Guye Adola finished in fourth with a time of 02:07:11. Rounding out the top five men’s finishers in Berlin, is Japanese runner Yuhei Urano who finished with a time of 02:07:35. 

In the Elite Women’s division, the time differences in the top-two runners was more intense than those of the men. Pre-race favorite, Rosemary Wanjiru claimed the first place finish in Berlin. The Kenyan ran an impressive 02:21:05 to claim the title. Just three seconds behind Wanjiru, Ethiopian runner Dera Dida claimed the second spot with a time of 02:21:08. 

In the third spot on the podium, Ethiopian Azmera Gebru came in with a time of 02:21:19. Kenyan runner Viola Cheptoo claimed the fourth spot in Berlin with a time of 02:21:40. Rounding out the top five in the women’s division is Ethiopian runner Fantu Worku, who came in with a final time of 02:21:57.
