The Kolas Rankings — often called the Kolas Calculator — determine which teams qualify for Nationals beyond the automatic regional bids. Here’s the simplest way to think about it:
- The top two teams in each region automatically qualify.
- The remaining at-large bids are selected using the Kolas formula, which evaluates head-to-head wins and results across regions to determine the most competitive teams.
Below are this year’s Automatic Qualifiers on both the men’s and women’s sides:

- Midwest: Oklahoma State, Iowa State
- Mountain: New Mexico, BYU
