With the VA Showcase quickly approaching, the excitement is building. Familiar faces return alongside dominant newcomers—everyone a year older, wiser, and more experienced. Some athletes are coming to take down the favorites, others are looking to avenge last year’s losses, and across the board, multiple events are firmly on national record watch.

If you’re ready for races that deliver on the hype, here are a few events to keep a close eye on:
Girls 60m
The national record currently belongs to Lisa Raye, now a freshman at the University of Georgia, who ran 7.13 last indoor season. But that mark could be under serious threat. Standouts Camryn Dailey and twins Mariah and Mia Maxwell (collectively known as the Maxwell twins) bring elite speed and competitive fire. With this much talent on the line, a record-breaking race is well within reach.
Boys 500m
Quincy Wilson may be racing with a chip on his shoulder. At last year’s VA Showcase, he finished behind Andrew Salvadon, who set the national record at 1:00.49 in that very race. With Salvadon not in the field this time around, Wilson has a golden opportunity to make a statement, and potentially add yet another national record to his résumé.
Boys 1000m
Cole Boone. Enough said. The national record holder in the event, Boone ran 2:20.14 last year after an indoor season defined by steady month-to-month improvement. Known for embracing the grind and the pain that comes with it, the question now is simple: what can Boone deliver in 2026 on the VA Showcase stage?
Girls Distance Medley Relay
All eyes will be on Paige Sheppard and Union Catholic. Sheppard is coming off an outstanding cross country season, capped by a strong showing at Brooks XC Nationals. Union Catholic consistently brings depth and firepower to the biggest stages, and when they’re in the field, records are often within striking distance.
The current national record in the Distance Medley Relay belongs to Cuthbertson (NC), who ran 11:17.50 at the 2024 New Balance Nationals Indoor in Boston—a mark that sits squarely in record-watch territory with the right race setup. It’s important to note that Union Catholic has the outdoor national record for the DMR set less than a year ago at New Balance Nationals Outdoor.
The VA Showcase has never been short on fireworks, and this year looks no different. With national records looming, redemption arcs unfolding, and the next generation of stars ready to announce themselves, every race carries weight. If history is any indication, expect fast times, fearless racing, and moments that will be talked about long after the meet ends.
