For the past two years, Sophie Rambo has kept the VA Showcase title close to home, winning the last two editions in 1:13.56 and 1:12.04.

In her last hurrah before she takes her talents down to Athens to become a Georgia Bulldog, Rambo was eyeing the three-peat at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.

Unsurprisingly, that's precisely what the experienced senior did, but little did we know that she would de-throne one of the greatest mid-distance runners in world history in the process. 

Rambo stopped the clock at 1:10.07 as she took down the field by nearly a second, moving past American record holder and Olympic champion Athing Mu in the high school record books. Mu, who had previously set the record at the 2020 VA Showcase, clocked 1:10.22, which at the time broke Chanelle Price's (Easton Area 11) 12-year-old record of 1:10.30.

Rambo's legendary performance makes her the first and only high school girl to ever break both 1:10.2 and 1:10.1, and makes her the 26th fastest-American of all-time.
