This morning, USATF announced host locations for the 2026 and 2027 USATF Outdoor and Para National Track and Field Championships. The 2026 event is headed to New York for the first time in history, with Icahn Stadium set to host the event on from July 23-26 in collaboration with the Randall's Island Park Alliance, Central Park Track Club and New York Road Runners.

USATF also shared that the 2027 edition will return to Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Icahn Stadium seats 5,000 spectators - but it is noted that the venue has the capability to add seating to accommodate more fans. In comparison, Hayward Field has a capacity of 12,650 and up to 30,000 when you include temporary seating. In 2025, USATF and Hayward Field sold on average 6,642 tickets per day during the four day event.

“The Toyota USTAF Outdoor Track and Para National Championships are annually among the most exciting track and field events on the global calendar,” said Max Siegel, CEO of USATF in a provided statement. “We are excited for the opportunity to hold our marquee meet in New York City where the United States’ top runners, jumpers and throwers will get to showcase their talents in front of new and longtime fans.”

The last National Track and Field Championship to be held in New York was the 1991 Athletics Congress of the USA Championship. That meet was held at Downing Stadium which was set at the current site of Icahn Stadium. 

The Athletics Congress became known as the USATF after the 1992 season.

Qualifying standards for the 2026 USATF Championships have not yet been announced. The meet will be broadcast on NBC on Saturday and Sunday, with USATF.tv taking the stream on Thursday, July 23 and Friday, July 24.
