Cole Hocker, the 2024 Olympic 1500m Champion, shattered the American Indoor Mile Record at the Sound Invite tonight. Hocker traversed the 1609m race in 3:45.94 to secure the win and set the new all-time mark.

The time - also ranks as the second fastest in Indoor World History, behind only Jakob Ingebrigtsen's 3:45.14 from this same weekend, last year.

Hocker's mark surpasses the 3:46.63 that Nuguse posted at the 2025 Millrose Games. At the time, that run was an Indoor World Record. Five days removed from Nuguse's race, Ingebrigtsen claimed the top honors at the World Indoor Tour Meeting in Lieven with his 3:45.14 running.

Tonight, Hocker latched on to the early pace-setting by Dylan DeCambre (Virginia Tech) and James Gormley. DeCambre brought the pace through 609m in 1:25.14, and Gormley brought the field through 1,000m in 2:22.81. From there, Hocker led an already strung-out field, with Vincent Ciattei (Under Armor) hot on his heels. With 400m remaining, Hocker lurched forward and began to gap the field. He closed in a 57-high last 400m. His last lap was a 27.34.

Incredibly, the new Indoor American Mile Record is also the second fastest time in American History All-Conditions. Only Yared Nuguse's 3:43.97 American Record from the 2023 Prefontaine Classic is quicker.

Also in the field, George Couttie of Virginia Tech ran the seventh fastest time in collegiate history with his 3:52.02.

The 16-year-old phenom, Sam Ruthe, finished in seventh with a stellar 3:52.46. Two weeks ago he ran 3:48 at the BU Terrier Classic.
