With the 2026 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships approaching, the national title race is starting to come into focus on both the women’s and men’s sides.

Illinois, BYU, and Georgia enter the meet as the top three teams on the women’s side in the latest College Indoor T&F Rankings Presented by Saucony, though several other contenders remain firmly in the mix.

Meanwhile, Oregon leads the men’s rankings heading into the championship meet, with programs like Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas Tech positioned to challenge for strong finishes, setting up what could be a wide-open battle for the national titles and the four coveted podium spots.

Who's Going To End The Meet On Top Of The Women's Podium?

By now, we're all aware that two of the heavy favorites are the Illinois Fighting Illini and the BYU Cougars, who come in at No. 1 and No. 2 in the 2026 College Indoor T&F Rankings Presented by Saucony for the second consecutive set of rankings.

Obviously, there are four podium spots in total, and there's a handful of programs that could find themselves in the top four when it's all said and done.

Georgia is one of the top dogs this winter and looks to be keen on ending the season with some hardware, and there's a strong possibility they take down the other two favorites.

Just as they always have been, the Bulldogs are loaded in the sprints, with redshirt-freshman Adaejah Hodge leading the way. Hodge is the fourth-ranked and top-ranked entry in the 60m and 200m, and Reign Redmond (60m), Kaila Jackson (60m), Dejanea Oakley (400m), and Shaquena Foote (400m) are joining her as well.

Texas Tech, South Carolina, Arkansas, and Oregon are all in the hunt in their own right, coming off of strong performances at their respective conference championships.

Are The Ducks The New Men's Favorite?

The Jerry Schumacher era continues to do exactly what Rob Mullens expected.

For the second consecutive year, the Ducks handily won the Big 10 team title, putting up points in 11 of 18 events, winning conference titles in the 3000m, 5000m, and the heptathlon.

Next weekend, Oregon has 14 individual entries and a relay competing in Arkansas, with nine ranked in the top-10. In classic Oregon fashion, the men's distance squad is a key component of their dominance, led by Elliott Cook, Simeon Birnbaum, and Matthew Errickson, among others, totaling 10 entries in the 800m, Mile, 3000m, and 5000m, plus their second-ranked DMR.

Since 2009, Oregon has won five indoor national titles, with the most recent in 2021.

It'll be a dogfight with other perennial powers, including Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas Tech, as well as newer contenders, such as Oklahoma and Kansas State.

SEC vs. Big 12 vs. Big Ten: Which Conference Has The Best Shot At The Title?

When you break down the rankings by conference, it clearly lays out the sport's depth this year. Unsurprisingly, the SEC leads the way with the most ranked teams in the top 30, giving them the strongest odds of both winning the championship and placing multiple teams on the podium, as Georgia holds their best shot ranked No. 3.

The Big 12 isn't too far behind with eight ranked teams and a handful of true, legitimate contenders near the top of the standings. Especially with BYU and Texas Tech in the top five at No. 2 and No. 4, setting up the possibility for the conference's best showing in a while.

Meanwhile, the Big Ten is anchored by No. 1 Illinois and backed by several other ranked programs, including Oregon (No. 7), USC (No. 8), and Nebraska (No. 12), keeping the conference firmly in the championship conversation.

Outside of those three leagues, teams from the ACC, WAC, Summit League, and Pac-12 could still influence the final standings with a strong performance on the national stage.
