Masai Russell Runs Second-Fastest 100m Hurdles Time In History

Masai Russell produced one of the greatest sprint hurdle performances ever recorded at the Xiamen Diamond League, storming to victory in 12.14, improving her previous No. 2 on the all-time mark from 12.17.

The American missed Tobi Amusan’s world record of 12.12 by just two hundredths of a second and delivered the fastest women’s 100m hurdles performance since the world record race in 2022.

Russell exploded through the middle barriers and separated from the field before the final hurdles, powering across the finish line to set a Diamond League record, meet record and world lead all in the same race. The performance immediately becomes one of the defining moments of the 2026 outdoor season and further establishes Russell as one of the premier sprint hurdlers in the world.

Ironically, the athlete closest to her was Amusan herself. The Nigerian world record holder finished second in 12.28 after chasing Russell throughout the race but never fully closing the gap over the final meters. Devynne Charlton followed in third at 12.37, while Megan Simmonds and Ditaji Kambundji also finished under 12.65 in a loaded international final.

Russell entered the season already carrying the world lead at 12.25 after her performance in Shanghai, but Xiamen elevated her into another level entirely. Only Amusan has ever run faster. With the championship season still months away, Russell’s 12.14 now stands as one of the fastest sprint hurdle performances the sport has ever seen.
