Adaejah Hodge entered the NCAA Outdoor Championships as one of the fastest women in collegiate track and field. On Thursday night at Hayward Field, the Georgia freshman made history.
Hodge blasted to a wind-legal 10.63 to win the opening heat of the women's 100-meter prelims, breaking Sha'Carri Richardson's NCAA and meet record of 10.75 that had stood since the 2019 NCAA Championships. The performance also established a new collegiate lead and championship record, making Hodge the fastest woman in NCAA history.

The race immediately became one of the defining moments of the championship's opening day.
Running with a legal 1.9 meters-per-second tailwind, Hodge exploded from the blocks and separated from the field before crossing the finish line well ahead of the previous record standard. LSU's Shawnti Jackson finished second in a personal-best 10.88 to earn an automatic qualifying spot, while USC's Brianna Selby advanced in 10.94. Tennessee's Dana Wilson ran a personal-best 11.01 and South Carolina's JaMeesia Ford followed in 11.02.
Adaejah Hodge just OBLITERATED Sha’Carri Richardson’s collegiate record of 10.75 with a world-leading 10.63 in the 100m heats.

Yeah, the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Championships are absolutely ridiculous.
Richardson's 10.75 had become one of the most iconic marks in collegiate sprinting after she set it during her NCAA title run seven years ago. Hodge's 10.63 not only erased that record but also further established the Georgia freshman as one of the brightest stars in the sport. With the semifinal rounds complete and the NCAA final still to come, Hodge now enters the championship race as the overwhelming favorite for the national title.
