The 2026 adidas Outdoor Nationals is underway and already has had some special moments appear in Greensboro, North Carolina. 

Thomas Fitzgerald from Langston Hughes High School made a major headline for himself as he set a meet record in the 400m hurdles. The mark of 52.19 ranks sixth in the country. 

Fitzgerald was accompanied by Deandre Thomas of Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School, who followed closely in 52.80, while Fitzgerald's teammate, Jamari Rosseau, secured third place in 52.99.

The race featured three athletes under 53 seconds and four under 53.15, highlighting the depth of competition in Greensboro.

Ultimately, Fitzgerald separated himself over the final stretch, becoming the only hurdler in the field to dip under 52.20.

His record-breaking performance not only earned a national title, it also cemented his place among the nation's top 400-meter hurdlers this season.
