JAAA National Championships: Seville and Jackson Claims 100m Title

Last weekend, the JAAA Junior and Senior National Championships showcased the depth and talent that continue to make Jamaica the sprint capital of the world. For senior athletes, the meet served as the selection event for the upcoming CARIFTA Games, while the nation's top U20 athletes competed for spots on the team for the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships.

From world-leading performances to emerging stars making their mark, the championships delivered plenty of highlights.

Oblique Seville Blasts World-Leading 9.82 To Win First National Title

Defending world champion Oblique Seville showed he is rounding into top form at the perfect time. Seville captured his first Jamaican national title in the men's 100m, clocking a world-leading 9.82 seconds with a legal 0.6 m/s tailwind.

Gary Card finished second in 9.93, while Ackeem Blake placed third in 9.94. Impressively, the top four finishers all dipped under the 10-second barrier, highlighting the incredible depth of Jamaican sprinting.

Seville is scheduled to race next at the Prefontaine Classic on July 4.

Shericka Jackson Runs Down Tina Clayton For Women's 100m Crown

After earning bronze at last year's World Championships, Shericka Jackson continues to prove that experience remains one of her greatest assets. The Jamaican star claimed the national title in 10.81 seconds, showcasing her trademark finishing speed.

Training partner Tina Clayton got out to a strong start and led much of the race, but Jackson surged past her over the final 40 meters to secure the victory. Clayton finished second in 10.85, while Jonielle Smith completed an MVP Track Club sweep of the podium with a personal-best 10.94.

Stacey Ann Williams Takes Control Of Women's 400m Final

Despite the absence of Jamaican record holder Nickisha Pryce and reigning NCAA champion and world leader Dejanea Oakley, the women's 400m still featured a strong field.

Stacey Ann Williams, who has already broken the 50-second barrier this season, controlled the race from start to finish to claim the national title in 50.33 seconds.

With Jamaica continuing to develop depth in the quarter-mile ranks, the nation could emerge as a serious medal contender in the women's 4x400m relay and individual events at future global championships.

Shanoya Douglas And Gary Card Lead Jamaica's Next Generation

The future of Jamaican sprinting remains bright.

Shanoya Douglas was one of the standout performers of the meet, completing an impressive sprint double in the U20 division. The national U20 record holder owns personal bests of 10.98 in the 100m and 22.11 in the 200m. At the championships, she cruised to victories in both events, running 11.08 in the 100m and 22.56 in the 200m with a legal 0.3 m/s tailwind.

Meanwhile, Gary Card elected to compete in the senior men's 100m and made history in the process. His 9.93-second runner-up finish broke the Jamaican U20 record and further cemented his status as one of the world's premier junior sprinters.

The 2026 JAAA National Championships once again demonstrated why Jamaica remains one of the most dominant forces in global track and field. Oblique Seville's world-leading performance, Shericka Jackson's continued excellence, and the emergence of stars like Shanoya Douglas and Gary Card highlight both the country's current strength and its promising future. With major international championships on the horizon, Jamaica appears well-positioned to continue producing world-class performances on the global stage.
