Jakob Ingebrigtsen Confirmed for 1500m at Diamond League Final in Brussels

Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the two-time Olympic champion, is confirmed to race the 1500m at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme on September 4, joining a loaded field on the opening night of the two-day Diamond League Final.

The race will be another step in Ingebrigtsen's journey back to the top of the sport after an 11-month absence caused by an Achilles injury. He made a stunning return to competition at the European Championships earlier this month, picking up where he left off by winning his fourth consecutive 5000m title.

The Norwegian then returned to Diamond League action in Silesia, finishing fourth in the 1500m in 3:31.16, behind Ethan Strand, Cole Hocker and Phanuel Kipsosegi Koech. Just a few days later, he lined up again in Zürich, running 3:32.16 for fifth.

Brussels will mark just his third Diamond League appearance of the season, but the race is only part of what remains for the European champion this year.

The 25-year-old will also compete at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in September. He has an automatic place in the 5000m and was granted an exceptional invitation to contest the 1500m, where he will face a field that includes mile world record holder Josh Kerr.

But before Budapest, all eyes are on the capital of Belgium. With a place in the Final secured, Ingebrigtsen will have a chance to cap his comeback season on the circuit with a big performance under the lights of King Baudouin Stadium.
