Justin Gatlin is one of the most accomplished American sprinters of the 21st century. The Olympic champion and five-time Olympic medalist is now preparing for a very different kind of race.

Gatlin will face fellow Olympic champion English Gardner in a 60-meter showdown on Sept. 5 on FloTrack.

Before the two settle their months-long debate, here are five things to know about Justin Gatlin.

Justin Gatlin Is An Olympic Champion

Gatlin won the 100 meters at the 2004 Athens Olympics, beginning one of the most decorated careers in American sprinting.

He went on to become a five-time Olympic medalist and won two World Championship 100-meter titles, winning in 2005 and 2017. Gatlin also won World Indoor titles in the 60 meters in 2003 and 2012.

He's One Of The Fastest Sprinters Ever

Gatlin owns a 9.74-second personal best in the 100 meters, which he ran in Doha in 2015 with a legal +0.9 meters-per-second wind.

His 9.74 remains one of the fastest times ever recorded in the event. Gatlin also owns a 6.45-second personal best in the indoor 60 meters, the distance he'll race Gardner on Sept. 5.

Justin Gatlin Beat Usain Bolt At The 2017 World Championships

Gatlin's 2017 World Championship victory is one of the most memorable races of his career.

At 35 years old, Gatlin won the 100-meter world title in 9.92 seconds, finishing ahead of Christian Coleman and Usain Bolt. It was Bolt's final individual race before his retirement.

The victory also gave Gatlin his second World Championship 100-meter title, 12 years after his first.

He's Racing English Gardner In FloSports' Parking Garage

Yes… you read that correctly.

Gatlin and Gardner have spent months talking about who would win if they raced. English Gardner is an Olympic champion and two-time World Championships silver medalist who owns a 10.74-second 100-meter personal best.

Gardner initially challenged Gatlin on FloTrack's Athlete’s Lounge, Gatlin accepted, and the two will finally settle the debate over 60 meters on Sept. 5.

The race will take place in the parking garage at FloSports headquarters on Athlete’s Lounge as part of FloTrack's Diamond League Final coverage.

There's also a trophy on the line. If Gardner wins, Gatlin has agreed to let her keep one of his Diamond League trophies for two weeks.
