Kenenisa Bekele Scratches Out Of 2026 BMW Berlin Marathon

Kenenisa Bekele has scratched out of the 2026 Berlin Marathon in the days ahead of competition.

This morning it was announced that Kenenisa Bekele will not race the 2026 BMW Berlin Marathon after-all.

The two-time Berlin Marathon winner has withdrawn with an injury in his left achilles tendon. According to race officials, he suffered the injury in one of his last training sessions before his travel to Berlin.

Just last Thursday race officials announced that Kenenisa Bekele would be running the Berlin Marathon, so the change in news comes as a bit of a surprise.

Bekele, 44-years-old, has not raced since he dropped out of the NYC Marathon last November. His last completed race was the 2024 Paris Olympic Marathon that saw him finish 39th.
