On Saturday, November 28, a horde of high school runners will descend on North Carolina to compete in the 2026 Brooks XC South Championships, eyeing the chance to finish top ten and qualify for the 2026 Brooks XC Championships presented by Fleet Feet.

Fourteen states will participate in the meet, but South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, Florida, Texas and North Carolina are the only states to have produced a champion.

For the first three years of the competition, the athletes raced in Atlanta. However, since 1982, the South XC Region Championship  has been held at the Larry McAfee Course at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, North Carolina.
