The 2026 TCS New York City Marathon takes place Sunday, Nov. 1, and spectators can follow friends, family members and professional athletes using the free New York Road Runners app.
The official NYC Marathon tracker provides runner progress updates throughout the 26.2-mile race, making it easier to follow participants across all five boroughs without being at the course.

How to track a runner in the 2026 NYC Marathon
To follow an individual runner during Sunday's race, use the official New York Road Runners mobile app.
- Download the app. Install the free New York Road Runners app on your iPhone or Android device.
- Find the marathon. Open the app and navigate to its TCS New York City Marathon race-day features.
- Access runner tracking. Look for the option to search for or follow participants.
- Find your runner. Search using the identifying information supported by the app. Having the runner's full name and bib number available may help.
- Follow the participant. Save or add the runner to your tracking list using the available controls.
- Monitor race progress. Check the app as the runner advances through the course for available timing updates, estimated progress and finishing information.
The app also supports following multiple runners, allowing spectators to keep track of more than one participant during the marathon.
Exact menu names and search controls should be confirmed in the app when its 2026 race-day experience is available.
Where to download the official NYC Marathon tracker app
The New York Road Runners app is free and available for both major mobile platforms.
- iPhone: Download the New York Road Runners app on the Apple App Store.
- Android: Download the New York Road Runners app on Google Play.
- Official website: Visit NYRR's marathon mobile app page for additional information.
Downloading the app before race day gives spectators time to become familiar with its features.
Can you track an NYC Marathon runner by name or bib number?
NYRR's results system supports searching for participants using identifying information such as first name, last name and bib number.
However, the precise search options in the 2026 marathon app had not been fully confirmed as of Oct. 28.
If bib-number searching is available, it can be especially useful for distinguishing between participants with similar names.
Spectators should confirm their runner's spelling and bib number before race day to make finding the correct participant easier.
What information does the NYC Marathon tracker show?
The official tracking experience is designed to help spectators follow runners' progress through the marathon.
Available and previously supported features include participant tracking, progress updates, estimated finish times, professional leaderboards and official race results.
Some functionality, including particular prediction displays, may depend on the final 2026 app experience.
The tracker should not be mistaken for a continuous GPS location service. Runner progress is based on race timing information and estimates, meaning a displayed position may not represent the athlete's exact location at that moment.
The app also provides coverage of professional racing, including men's and women's elite competitions and wheelchair divisions.
Is there an NYC Marathon live tracker website?
As of Oct. 28, NYRR was promoting its mobile app as the official way to follow runners during the 2026 marathon. A separate browser-based live tracker had not been advertised in the research available at that time.
For finishing times and official race records, readers can also visit the NYRR results website.
The results website is a separate resource and should not be confused with live runner tracking.
Professional wheelchair athletes are scheduled to start at 8 a.m. ET, professional women at 8:35 a.m. and professional men at 9:05 a.m. General-entry runners begin in waves afterward, so tracking activity will depend on when each participant starts.
