Fife and Scott attempt to break 4:00 mile Friday

--Brooks Team Indiana's Jordan Fife and Derek Scott will make an attempt to break the four minute mile at the Indiana Relays this Friday at Gladstein Fieldhouse.  The Invitational Mile race is scheduled for 7:05pm.  The attempt will be paced by Sean Bowman, who will look to take the race out at a four minute clip of 2:30 for 1000m.  Fife ran 4:00.13 at this meet last year, then became the 305th US born athlete to break four minutes for the mile the following week in South Bend, Indiana, where he ran 3:59.75.  Scott ran 4:00.20 in June of 2007, and is hoping to become US #315 to break four minutes.  A time of 4:01.20 will qualify them for the 2009 USA Track and Field Indoor Championships in Boston on Feb 27 and 28.

Also competing at the Indiana Relays on Saturday will be Jeff Powers in the 5000m.  Powers is looking to hit the US Indoor qualifying standard of 14:07.00.  Powers was 8th in last year's USATF Indoor Championships 3000m event.  The 5000m race will be paced by Brooks Team Indiana newcomer Trent Hoerr, and will include US Olympic Trials steeplechase finalists Brian Olinger and Dan Huling, along with teammate Stephen Haas.  The 5k is schedule to go off at 3:40pm.

Ty Davis, Olympic Trials semi-finalist in the 800m, will race in the women's Invitational 800m on Saturday at 2:20pm.
