Olympic Trials 100-meter hurdler, Kori Carter of Stanford, took an extra liking to the 400-meter hurdles this season. The change in focus has suited her well.
The first event of Day 3 of the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships was the 400-meter hurdles. Carter entered the season with a 57.6 personal record (PR). She not only broke her PR in the Finals, but she broke the NCAA Division-1 collegiate record, set an NCAA meet record, yet again beat PAC-12 rival Georganne Moline of Arizona, and is now the world leader in the event. Her time was 53.21 besting second place Moline’s 53.72.
Sheena Johnson of UCLA held the former collegiate record and NCAA Meet record (53.54) for almost nine years.
