Mo Trafeh caught with EPO at airport
Mo Trafeh has retired from the sport of track and field after the eight-time U.S. Road Champion was caught with the performance-enhancing drug erythropoietin (EPO) at an undisclosed airport, according to LetsRun.com.
“Against my better judgment and after hours of discussions, I made an unwise decision to purchase EPO, a USOC banned substance, so that I could train in effort to return to my previous form,” Trafeh said in a statement though his lawyer Jonathan LaCour.
“During my return trip home after purchasing the EPO, I was stopped by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) and they discovered the banned substance.”
Trafeh also denies that since 2008, he had never used EPO. Between 2008 and 2014, Trafeh was tested by USADA 24 times. There were no positive results.

Christo Landry, who tied Trafeh’s 25K Road American Record of 1:14:18 this past May at the U.S. 25K Championships, is now the sole owner of the record.
