FloTrack Flashback: Nicole Tully Runs 15:05 In Her first 5K

In her first ever 5K on the track, Nicole Tully ran to a third-place finish at the Payton Jordan Invitational, finishing in a time of 15:05.58. The former Villanova standout had been a competitve 800m/1500m runner since 2002. Her fastest 5K came from 2013, when she ran 16:06 on the roads. After her very impressive performance in Palo Alto, FloTrack had a chance to catch up with Tully.
FloTrack: Were you paying attention to the time at all during the race? Or were you more focused on racing?
Tully:"I knew that the 'A' standard was 15:20. Honestly I was gonna be happy if I ran 15:30...I thought 15:20 might be a little agressive."

Just six weeks later, Tully raced her second 5K at the USA Outdoor Championships. Although her finishing time of 15:06.44 wasn't a PR, she came home with something much bigger: The win.

In a very exciting race, Tully edged out Marielle Hall by just one-hundredth of a second, punching her ticket to Bejing for the World Championships. Tully will be racing her third 5K at the London Diamond League Meeting this weekend, along with the American record-holder Molly Huddle, as well as Marielle Hall and plenty more.

Stay tuned for the full London preview.
