BOSTON — Mississippi State football coach Dan Mullen will make his marathon debut this Monday in the 2016 Boston Marathon.
The third-most winningest coach in Bulldog history has never run a 5k before but told USA Today’s For The Win that the opportunity to run Boston “one of those bucket list things you want to do in life.” He ran around 6 miles every morning before football practice to prepare, and sometimes longer on the weekends. He said he hopes to finish between around four hours.
Mullen, 43, grew up on Manchester, New Hampshire, 70 miles north of Hopkinton, the location of the Boston Marathon starting line. Because Mississippi State is an adidas sponsored program, Mullen was granted an automatic entry into the three stripes sponsored race. He will be raising money for the Mullen 36 Foundation, his family charity that supports Mississippi’s youth.
