A historic double is still in play for Allyson Felix at the Rio Olympics. After months of injury, barely racing in 2016, and running the second-fastest qualifying time in the semis, Felix put the rest of the women's 400 field in a pan, threw a little foil on top, and roasted the shit out of it. Natasha Hastings led the race for 300 meters, but Felix powered away in the home stretch. The best American sprinter of at least the last 20 years didn't break 51 once this outdoor season, and she won in 49.68 seconds tonight at Hayward.
No woman came within a quarter second of her. She'll be joined on the Olympic team by Phyllis Francis and Natasha Hastings. Francis's 49.94 in second was her first time sub-50, and Hastings ran 50.17 for third.
More to come.
