At the Bix 7 mile road race yesterday in Davenport, Iowa, Silas Kipruto of Kenya reached behind him and tried to slap Teshome Mekonen of Ethiopia. It seemed like Kipruto was uncomfortable with how closely Mekonen was running behind him.
Kipruto went on to win the race in 33:03, and Mekonen's protest was turned down.
Meb Keflezighi actually ran the race and finished seventh in 33:40 in his final race before Rio. Meb knows all about getting uncomfortable with a runner behind him clipping his heels; he complained about Galen Rupp doing it to him at the marathon Trials.
