A Gift Guide For Dating Your Teammate
A Gift Guide For Dating Your Teammate
A holiday gift guide for the teammate runner couple.

Dating a teammate can be an extremely convenient and all-encompassing relationship. You sneak a peek at him or her doing strides at practice, Gchat during an entire lecture hall class, and share that third bowl of fro-yo during post-workout dining hall dates. When the holidays come around, you as a fellow runner have a leg up on all the nerdy runner gifts that your significant other wants. If you want to keep those running dates smooth, we suggest you take some notes from the teammate couple gift guide.
Bicycle
Sometimes workout schedules don't align, but you still want some company on your long run. In order to make this happen, you need to get your boyfriend a bicycle so he can ride next to you, chat it up as your crush those miles, blast some party music from his phone, and provide one or two water bottle breaks.
Clip board frame
A classic male runner move is to save every race bib and haphazardly tape it to his bedroom wall, right next to his massive Steve Prefontaine poster and dirty spikes hanging above his bed. To prevent his bedroom from looking like the check-in tent exploded, you should get him a clipboard frame so he can organize his bibs. This one from Target should do just fine.
Facial hair grooming kit
Stachies at Nashies is a right of passage for every male cross country runner. Every year in No-Shave November, male cross country runners grow out their facial hair before the NCAA championships. By the time the race rolls around, everyone on the starting line either has an unfortunate mustache or a homeless man-esque beard. Encourage your boyfriend to keep his 'stache looking presentable by gifting him with a facial hair grooming kit.

Race day accessories: team mascot removable tattoos
Let's start with a simple stocking stuffer. Before every race, your lady runner friend and her best teammates will go through the time-honored ritual of applying removable face/body tattoos to show off their team spirit. Surprising her with a couple of these bad boys will let her know that you're thinking of her before her big race and save her a whopping 50 cents. Maybe mix in a little eye black for that one race against her rival school where you know there will be spiking going down on the backstretch.
Date night: extra dining hall meal points
Ah, the dining hall--the runner couple's ultimate romantic date spot. Nothing says "I love you" more than staring into each other's eyes over second helpings from the all-you-can eat pizza buffet at your local dining hall. Maybe wash it all down with a plastic glass full of chocolate milk (post-long run recovery bonding!) and split a brownie a la mode (free fro-yo!). All this while being surrounded by your teammates and 500 other random students. Don't forget to stuff your team backpacks full of plates and silverware on your way out for memories of an unforgettable date.
Spice things up: deep tissue massage for two
Trying to take your running relationship to the next level? Look no further than a deep tissue massage gift certificate for two. As a fellow runner, you understand how important the recovery process is and a deep tissue massage is a muscle-altering experience the two of you can share. Sweat, cringe, and cry together as the masseuses turn muscles in your quads into putty that you didn't even know existed. At the end of it all, the two of you will have wobbly legs but will be ready to take on whatever the next twisted workout your coach dreams up.
Bonus: A core mat and ab blaster DVD for yourself
Let's be honest, she probably has better abs than you do and does 10 times the amount of core work than you do. Want to knock out a gift to both your significant other and your upcoming track season? Buy one of these freshly scented core mats (time to get rid of that mat you stole from the training room that a bunch of football dudes sweated over), pop in one of these core DVDs, and get to work. Not only will your girlfriend marvel at your finely carved abdomen, but you'll get a head start on knocking out a PR on the track.
