Stephanie Rothstein Bruce
After two kids and multiple injuries, Stephanie Bruce made her triumphant return to the marathon at California International Marathon where she finished second in 2:32. Her marathon return, which has been three years in the making, finally came on Sunday when she notched a performance that was just a few minutes off of her personal best of 2:29.
Karissa Schweizer
The NCAA cross country champion carried her fitness over to the track when she blasted a massive personal best of 15:37 in the 5K at the BU Season Opener. Schweizer's previous best was 15:58 from last year's Mt. SAC Invitational. In the same season, Schweizer earned a third-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The podium performance was the first sign of a breakthrough in her 2015-16 season as Schweizer earned her first NCAA title at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in November.
Eric Fernandez
In his first marathon ever, NAZ Elite's Eric Fernandez finished fourth in 2:14 at California International Marathon. Fernandez's epic finish was captured in a video from his agent Josh Cox.
Casey Clinger
Casey Clinger lived up to his season-long No. 1 ranking. The American Fork High School phenom became the first male runner to claim two consecutive Nike Cross Nationals titles after clinching the victory in 15:28 Saturday in Portland, Oregon. Clinger beat runner-up and NXN South champion Sam Worley by seven seconds.
Brie Oakley
Brie Oakley made a statement by dominating the women's Nike Cross Nationals field in 17:10, a whopping 28 seconds ahead of the next finisher. Oakley's performance is especially impressive given the fact that she has only been running competitively for the past calendar year.
