Raven Saunders Breaks Her Own Collegiate Record By Over A Foot
Last winter, Raven Saunders broke the collegiate record before fouling two of her three throws and finishing a disappointing 12th at indoor NCAAs. This year, Saunders did things the opposite way. No in-season records--though she did have two of the six best throws in collegiate history--and a massive collegiate record on the final throw of the NCAA meet.

Saunders had the title won on her fourth throw, going 19.20m (63-0) to break a five-year old facility record. (That's just three centimeters less than her old collegiate record.) On her final throw, once she knew the title was official, she let loose and threw 19.56m (64-2¼)--33cm past her old indoor record and 23cm further than her outdoor record.

The indoor and outdoor shot puts weigh the same, but are slightly different densities and materials. The mark makes her the U.S. No. 4 performer ever indoors.
