Nike Says That The Sub-2:00 Attempt Will Be The First Weekend In May
The Nike sub-2:00 marathon attempt will be in early May.
Nike is smartly giving its sub-2:00 attempt a little wiggle room for the weather. According to a press release on its website, Eliud Kipchoge, Zersenay Tadese, and Lilesa Desisa will attempt to run a marathon in under two hours in the first weekend of May. If the race is run on Saturday, May 6, it will be on the anniversary of Roger Bannister running the first sub-4:00 mile.
It was previously announced that the run will take place on a Formula One race track in Monza, Italy. The race will be closed to the public and streamed online, according to the shoe company. As of early March, Nike was saying that it would not count as an official world record, even though the IAAF would officially sanction the course as record-legal.
