2017 FloXC Countdown: #11 North Carolina State Women
2017 FloXC Countdown: #11 North Carolina State Women
The NC State women will once again be a strong team this season.
Follow our 2017 FloXC Countdown, where FloTrack ranks the top 25 cross country teams and individuals in the NCAA this season which will be LIVE on FloTrack. The No. 11 women's spot goes to North Carolina State, and here's why:
JR Rachel Koon (9:09 3K; 16:01 5K; 25th at '16 NCAA XC)
SR Wesley Frazier (4:39 Mile; 9:01 3K; 15:45 5K; 47th at '16 NCAA XC)
SR Alyssa Rudawsky (4:32 1500; 16:26 5K; 84th at '16 NCAA XC)
JR Ryen Frazier (4:38 Mile; 9:17 3K; 16:02 5K; 115th at '16 NCAA XC)
SO Elly Henes (4:23 1500; 16:01 5K; 159th at '16 NCAA XC)
SO Bethlehem Taye (16:53 5K; 27th at '16 ACC XC)
Julia Zachgo via Clifton Park, NY (4:33 1500; 100th at '16 NXN)
Isabel Zimmermann via Pfafftown, NC (10:41 3200; 2nd at '17 NBN Outdoor 2 Mile)
The NC State women return four of their top five from their fourth-place finish last year. The one loss was their number one stick in Erika Kemp, but the Wolfpack should still be a top-10 caliber team based on potential. NC State will rely heavily on upperclassmen Rachel Koon (25th last year) and Alyssa Rudawsky (84th last year) to improve on their performances. But, most notably, it will be the Frazier sisters who dictate the direction of this team. If both Wesley and Ryen can put together 'A' races on the same day this team will be a scary team to face in the postseason.
Outside of the top four NC State will look to younger ladies to fill in the 5-7 slots. Sophomores Elly Henes and Bethlehem Taye should step up this season and potentially incoming freshmen Julia Zachgo and Isabel Zimmermann could make immediate impacts as well.
