Iowa State returns four of the seven men who placed 16th in Terre Haute last year, including top performer Thomas Pollard, who placed 45th as a redshirt freshman.
The Cyclones also have a highly rated influx of new faces, including Festus Lagat, a junior college transfer who won four national titles in 2016 but sat out for the entirety of 2017. His knack for cross country is admittedly a bit of a question mark, but we went ahead and rated Lagat No. 21 in the FloXC individual Countdown due to his sterling record on the track. Though more of a middle distance man, he's already won his season opener, and in 2015 managed a third-place finish at the 2015 NJCAA XC championships and beat out future All-American Joe Klecker of Colorado at the Rocky Mountain Shootout that year.
Pollard and Lagat are backed up by last year's No. 5 man, Andrew Jordan, who clocked 13:55 for 5K as a true freshman. The 4-5 spots will be competitive to pin down, but a mixture of veteran team members like Dan Curts (99th at NCAAs in 2016) and new faces like Liberty transfer Stanley Langat will fill out the scoring positions.
