ESPN The Magazine released its annual "Body Issue" this week, and track and field was once again represented among the 15 sports and athletes featured in the special edition.

Three-time Olympic medalist and reigning 100m world champion Tori Bowie appeared in seven photos taken by Eric Lutzens, which you can see below and in the full issue. The magazine also ran an accompanying profile piece, where Bowie detailed the worst thing her body has ever gone through (and it wasn't 200-meter sprint repeats):

"I had to have surgery on my jaw. It was broken in three different places. It wasn't even attached to my face. I've actually never told anyone how it happened. My sister and I went out. It was around the time I was getting ready to go to the Olympic trials in 2012. It was just the wrong place at the wrong time. Something was thrown, and I was the person that got hit with it in a public place. I still don't know who did it to this day. My jaw was wired shut for eight to 10 weeks. When I ate, all the fluids had to go between my teeth, because I was wired completely shut."

This isn't Bowie's first foray into the world of modeling—earlier this year, she appeared in a Valentino fashion campaign and attended New York Fashion Week

Last year's "Body Issue" included Jamaican sprinter Novlene Williams-Mills, and the 2016 Olympic edition featured U.S. steeplechaser Emma Coburn. Other years have included U.S. hammer thrower Amanda Bingson, Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete Ashton Eaton, hurdler Lolo Jones, sprinter Walter Dix, and marathoner Ryan Hall.
