The 29-year-old Kiptum surpassed Eritrean Zersenay Tadese’s 58:23 that had stood since 2010. For Kiptum, the time marks his first performance ever under 59 minutes, as he remarkably lowered his personal best by 51 seconds on Sunday.
58:18 for 13.1 miles is approximately 4:26/mile pace.
