On behalf of the national mortgage lender Quicken Loans®, FloSports is excited and honored to award Darrell General, track and cross country coach at George Marshall High School in Virginia, with $25,000 to put towards a year’s worth of mortgage payments for being named the 2018 Hometown Hero.

Back in March, FloSports conducted a nationwide search for coaches who provide the fundamental groundwork for their athletes to excel and who exhibit an ability to build strong communities by showing the importance of teamwork, goal setting, and work ethic. Over 1,000 phenomenal nominees came in across 16 different sports, and after an excruciating process to nail it down to 5 coaches -- the people have spoken.

Darrell General has been a coaching for 30 years and is the true definition of a Hometown Hero. Contending for a state championship every year in track and cross country is one thing, but it is because Coach General puts his athletes above everything that makes him stand out. He coaches his athletes on and off the track, making sure they don’t only focus on running but making sure they focus on respect for their families, their community, and making sure all of his athletes have a good future for ourselves.

Thank you to everyone who nominated a coach for the 2018 Hometown Hero Award, and to all the coaches across the country for preparing and encouraging today's athletes to excel on and off the field, court or mat.
