CAA Track & Field Weekly Awards -- April 5

The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) has announced the recipients of its weekly track and field awards. 


The women’s honorees were Elon’s Piper Jons, earning CAA Track Athlete of the Week, and Keeley Suzenski of William & Mary, receiving CAA Field Athlete of the Week. On the men’s side, Josh Parks collected CAA Track Athlete of the Week and Phillips Magre of Northeastern was named CAA Field Athlete of the Week.

 

WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Piper Jons, Elon

Sophomore | Sprints | Ijamsville, Md. / Urbana

Jons established the CAA’s top time in the 400m dash this season, running a personal-best 54.34 in the 400m at the VertKlasse Meeting. The sophomore finished second overall in the competition and moved into second place all-time in the Elon program record book. The time ranks 32nd in the NCAA East Region and is 52nd in the country.

 

WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Keeley Suzenski, William & Mary

Redshirt Sophomore | Throws | Fleetwood, Pa. / Berks Catholic

Suzenski set a William & Mary program record in the shot put at the Colonial Relays, recording a mark of 14.93m (48-11.75). She finished second place in the meet and established the top mark in the CAA this spring by over four feet. The throw sits 45th in the NCAA East Region and is a top 100 mark nationally.   

 

MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Josh Parks, UNCW

Junior | Sprints / Hurdles | Kannapolis, N.C. / A.L. Brown

Parks set personal-best marks in the 100m and 200m en route to a pair of top-five finishes at the Bill Carson Invitational. The Kannapolis, N.C. native established the top marks in the CAA in each respective event, finishing second in the 200m with a time of 21.12 and placing fourth in the 100m with a time of 10.45. Parks’ performance in the 100m ranks 47th in the NCAA East Region and cracks the top 100 nationally, while his time in the 200m ranks 56 in the NCAA East Region.

 

MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Phillips Magre, Northeastern

Senior | Sprints / Jumps | Malden, Mass. / Somerville HS

Marge earned a second-place finish in the high jump at the UConn Dog Fight with a clearance of 2.03m (6-08). The jump is the top mark in the CAA this season and ranks 48th in the NCAA East Region. The performance also ranks ninth all-time on Northeastern’s outdoor performance list.

 

Women’s Notes:

Delaware – Aja Davis won the 100m at the Colonial Relays, posting a personal-best time of 11.88, which is third all-time in Delaware program history. Her time is the fourth-fastest in the CAA but the fastest non-wind aided performance in the league this spring … Elon – Alyssa Sandy improved her league-leading time in the 100m hurdles at the VertKlasse Meeting, running 13.64(w) to place second in the event. Meghan Wilcox took fifth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.85(w). The time is tied for the second-fastest time in the conference this season … Hofstra - Jordyn McDonnell posted a time of 6:22.46 to win the 2000m steeplechase at the Sam Howell Invitational, hosted by Princeton … James Madison – The Dukes 4x200m relay team won gold at the Colonial Relays, clocking a time of 1:38.24 to rank sixth all-time in program history. JMU’s DMR team placed second in the event after a time of 12:10.42 … UNCW – A pair of Seahawks collected victories at the Bill Carson Invitational, hosted by East Carolina. Janiyah Fields recorded a personal-best 24.61 to take first in the 200m, while Mackenzie Townsend won the 400m, posting a time of 57.89 … Northeastern – Dominique Biron won the long jump at the UConn Dog Fight, leaping 5.81m(w) (19-00.75). She also recorded a personal-best 1:02.97 in the 400m hurdles to place third in the event and move into eighth place in the Northeastern program record books … Towson – Crystal Johnson won the 100m (11.73w) and took second in the 200m (24.62) at the Towson Invitational. Additionally, Cristal Cuervo and Fatimah Owens won events, claiming victories in the 400m and discus, respectively. Cuervo won the 400m in 56.14, which ranks fourth in the CAA this season, while Owens recorded a mark of 45.94m (150-09) to win the discus and rank third in the conference this spring … William & Mary – Mary Gregory earned a second-place finish in the 400m at the Colonial Relays, recording a time of 55.69, which ranks third in the CAA this season. Gregory was also a part of the Tribe’s winning 4x400m relay team that posted a league-leading time of 3:42.57 in the event. 

 

Men’s Notes:

Hofstra – Zach Van Houten competed in the 10,000m at the Sam Howell Invitational and posted the CAA’s top time in the event this season, finishing in 29:54.89 … UNCW – A pair of Seahawks earned first-place finishes at the Bill Carson Invitational as Ryan DeBarber took gold in the javelin (53.14m) and Khairi Williams won the 110m hurdles (14.60) … Northeastern – Nicholas Pisciotta collected an individual victory in the hammer throw at the UConn Dog Fight, recording a mark of 59.81m (196-02) in the event. At the Minutemen Invitational, Nicholas Young ran to a second-place finish with a time of 1:51.89, which ranks second in the CAA this spring … William & Mary – Harrison Duncan won the long jump and took second in the triple jump at the Colonial Relays. His marks established the top performances in the CAA in each respective event this season, leaping 7.03m (23-00.75) in the long jump and 13.64m (44-09) in the triple jump.
