Derek Miles placed 7th in the pole vault at the 2004 Olympics. After dealing with injuries in recent years, he started 2008 strong by placing 8th at the World Indoor Championships. Miles opened his outdoor season with a clearance of 18-08.75 at the Drake Relays.
